Your dog has just undergone a dental procedure. Now, it’s time for rest and recovery.
If you have scanned the QR code on your discharge sheet, your dog is likely back home with you or on their way. This guide expands on your discharge sheet to help you understand exactly what is normal and what to watch out for.

1. The First 24 Hours: The "Groggy" Phase
It is completely normal for your dog to feel the effects of the anaesthetic for 24 to 48 hours.

  • Sleepiness: They will likely want to sleep. Let them rest in a warm, quiet place.

  • Saliva: You might see a small amount of blood-tinged saliva. This is normal, especially if teeth were removed.

  • The Green Bandage: Check your dog's front legs. If there is a small green bandage where the IV line was, please remove this once you are home.

2. Feeding Guide

  • Routine Scale & Polish: You can feed a small amount of their normal diet tonight. If you use dry food, soak it in warm water to soften it for 2-3 days.

  • Teeth Extracted: Feed soft food only for at least 14 days. Avoid hard treats, bones, or toys.

3. House Rules: Rest & Recovery

  • Rest: Keep your dog quiet for 48 hours.

  • Garden Safety: Use a lead in the garden in case they are still wobbly from the anaesthetic.

4. Medication & Pain Relief
If you have been sent home with medication (listed on your paper form), please complete the course.

5. When to Call Us (Red Flags)
Please contact us immediately if you notice:

  • The Mouth: Excessive bleeding, discharge, or unpleasant smells.

  • General Health: Vomiting, diarrhoea, or if they are still extremely lethargic after 24 hours.
